On their family farm in Aberdeenshire, the fifth generation of the Mackie’s family produces real dairy ice cream and chocolate using renewable energy. Their ice cream is Scotland’s favourite, and their much loved Traditional flavour is available in all major retailers across the UK.
How we work together
At the end of 2019, Mackie’s approached us with a brief to develop a summer campaign for 2020 and to take a look at their current branding to see how we could refresh it.
Throughout early 2020 we undertook a brand refresh, bringing to life their brand proposition of ‘making simple delicious’ and amplifying their product quality and provenance credentials – ice cream made with fresh milk and cream, all on their family farm in Aberdeenshire.
During the process, we were mindful to make sure the changes were in line with the interests and values of Mackie’s consumers. The brand refresh included new packaging designs for their ice cream and chocolate ranges, the development of a new website, a revamped e-newsletter and social media strategy and fresh video advertising across Facebook and YouTube.
Somewhere in between, we found time to run two summer campaigns: ‘Mackie’s Summer of Simple Pleasures’ in 2020 and ‘Discover Summer’ in 2021, both centred around competitions, hosted on their website, supported by social media and nationwide advertising – both digital and print.
The campaigns were further supported in collaboration with Influencers, who each received and gave away a hamper of treats, to their followers.
We now work with Mackie’s on a retained basis, offering brand consultancy, marketing calendar planning and execution, as well as managing their digital advertising, social media, and e-newsletter to the ‘Friends of Mackie’s’.
Client wins
• Launched new ice cream packaging in March 2021 and chocolate packaging in September 2021.
• Developed a new website launched in May 2021 and increased YoY traffic by over 60%.
• Grown Mackie’s e-mail database by over 55%, with an average open rate of 35% and CTR of 27%.
